Interpretation

Shaayar Fazli seems to capture the crushing loneliness of being a stranger in a strange land. He describes a perfect storm of physical misery: a freezing night, aimless wandering, and eyes heavy with the burden of sleep.

The tragedy, however, isn't the cold or the fatigue — it is the lack of a destination. Stripped of belonging in a strange city, he has no refuge. It contrasts between the physical structure of a house and the emotional safety of "home," leaving him to wander endlessly in the dark.

There is a quiet sorrow in the couplet, a sense of displacement. The poet recognizes that distance from one’s own city and being away from one's own people turns even mundane nights into ordeals. What should have ended with warmth, comfort, and rest instead stretches on in aimless wandering on a cold night, unable to sleep.
