Aanis Moin Biography

Aanis Moin was a promising Urdu poet born in 1960 in Multan, Pakistan. He grew up in a religious and culturally rich family. His father was Syed Fakhruddiin Balley.

From a young age he showed sensitivity of soul and interest in inner life, reflection, longing and spirituality. He was drawn to the themes of love, separation, inner turmoil and existential questions. His work included ghazals, nazms and numerous couplets that express emotion in few but potent words.

Aanis Moin’s life was short. At the age of 25 or 26 he died by suicide on 5 February 1986. The manner was tragic and sudden. His death meant that many of his artistic potential and expressive voice remained incomplete.

During his brief career he produced a body of work that continues to be read and admired by lovers of Urdu poetry. His ghazals and couplets are appreciated for their emotional depth, lyrical quality, clarity of expression and haunting imagery.

Though he published few works in his lifetime, his poems live on through recitations, anthologies and memory. Even today his name comes up when people talk about poets who burned bright and left a mark despite a life cut short.

Aanis Moin is remembered as one of those young poets in Urdu literature whose inner voice and craftsmanship made readers feel deeply, even though he did not live long enough to see the full arc of his promise.
