Ajmer (Rajasthan)
Saeed Qais was born in 1942 in Ajmer, India. He later became a significant voice in Urdu poetry, particularly from Bahrain, where he spent much of his life and literary activity. His poetic work spans ghazals, nazms, and short couplets; he is known for blending emotional depth with lyrical elegance. Many of his poems reflect themes of love, absence, longing, time, separation, and inner reflection. His language is typically accessible but touches on classical Urdu emotion and imagery, making his verses appealing both to traditional poetry lovers and newer audiences.
In 2016, his complete works were collected under the title Kulliyat-e-Saeed Qais, which helped preserve his poetic contribution and made it easier for readers to access a comprehensive body of his writing. Though he was often based outside the traditional centers of Urdu literature, his poetry circulated widely online, in print, and in recitations. He passed away in 2018, leaving behind a legacy among Urdu poetry lovers in Bahrain, India, and beyond. His poems are frequently quoted and shared for their expressive imagery, emotional sincerity, and gentle mastery of the ghazal form.
