Interpretation

Shaayar Hari Chand Akhtar seems to poke gentle but sharp fun at a certain austere idea of paradise. In this imagined heaven, the heart has no desires, life is permanently calm, and one must spend eternity in the solemn company of a sermon-giving cleric. The poet suggests that such a joyless heaven might feel like punishment rather than reward. The couplet slyly argues that human life draws meaning from longing, passion, and restless desire. Remove these, and existence becomes sterile. If paradise demands the death of longing, the poet wonders whether hell might actually feel more alive.
