Obaidur Rahman Biography

Obaidur Rahman was born on 11 October 1961 in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. From an early age he showed an unusual combination of interests in science and literature. He pursued his higher education in Zoology, completing both a Master’s degree and a PhD. This academic background shaped his disciplined approach to thinking and writing but did not limit his creativity. Alongside his scientific studies he cultivated a love for Urdu poetry that would later define his public life.

After completing his education he began working in fields that connected science and communication. He served with the Indian Council for Agricultural Research as a science editor and later became Regional Director at the Patna Regional Centre of Maulana Azad National Urdu University. These positions allowed him to blend scholarship with outreach and to bring complex ideas to a wider audience in clear, accessible language.

As a poet, Obaidur Rahman published several collections that reflect both sensitivity and thoughtfulness. His books include Aawaaz Ke Saaye, Soch Aabshaar and Ek Nao Kaaghazi. In these works he wrote of human experience, introspection, time and change, weaving scientific curiosity and social observation into a lyrical Urdu style. His poetry is marked by clarity, compassion and an undercurrent of ethical reflection. Readers find in his verses not only beauty of expression but also a concern for the realities of everyday life.

He also became a leading figure in the effort to popularize science among Urdu readers. His books Kuchh Science Se and Science Sab Ke Liye opened scientific topics to audiences who might otherwise have little exposure to them. For this dual contribution to literature and science he received recognition from Urdu academies and cultural bodies in Bihar, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.

Obaidur Rahman passed away in 2014 in Delhi after a period of illness. He left behind a legacy that unites the precision of science with the depth of poetry. His life and work continue to inspire those who believe knowledge and art can enrich each other and reach people in their own language.
