Biography
Ghulam Rabbani Tabannā was both a poet and political activist, remembered for his patriotic and socially charged verse. Born in Hyderabad Deccan in 1914, he grew up in a politically aware environment and soon developed a reputation as a fearless poet who used his pen to challenge injustice.
His poetry combined lyrical expression with political conviction. At a time when India was moving towards independence, Tabannā’s verses voiced resistance, unity, and the aspirations of ordinary people. He was closely associated with the struggles of the people of Hyderabad, particularly during the turbulent years before its integration into the Indian Union.
Tabannā was not just a poet but also a politician. He served in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly and was an active member of political movements, using both his words and his leadership to inspire change. His poetry collections, though not widely circulated outside Hyderabad, are remembered locally for their emotional power and patriotic spirit.
Even after independence, his work continued to reflect social and political issues. He passed away in Hyderabad in 1991, leaving behind a legacy as a poet who refused to separate art from activism.
