Azeez

Azeez Baghravi was born in 1932 in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. He became a respected figure in Urdu literature, remembered both for his original poetry and for his contributions as a compiler and editor. Throughout his life, he created ghazals, couplets, and naat that reflected deep feeling and lyrical clarity.

His poetry often combined traditional grace with reflective wisdom. One of his memorable verses carries a message of legacy and guidance:

“jaada jaada chhod jaao

apni yaadon ke nuqoosh

aane vaale kaarwaan ke

raahnuma ban kar chalo”

This couplet reflects his belief that memories and actions should serve as guiding lights for future generations.

Along with his personal writing, Azeez Baghravi devoted energy to supporting Urdu literary culture through editing and compiling. He published collections such as Jihad-e-Harf in 1988 and worked with magazines including Etimadia and Pesh Raft. These efforts positioned him not only as a poet but also as a literary caretaker who sought to preserve and promote the richness of Urdu expression.

He passed away in 2004, leaving behind both his own words and his contributions to the wider Urdu literary world. Although less is documented about his personal life and education, his poetic works and editorial achievements ensure that his name continues to be remembered.

Azeez Baghravi is honored today as a poet who wrote with sincerity and as an editor who supported the voices of others, keeping alive the literary traditions he valued so deeply.
