Interpretation

Shaayar Vashisht seems to suggest that intoxication here is not merely of wine but of fixation. The world has narrowed to two symbols, the cup and the wine-pourer (bartender, saaqi).

Time, that strict accountant, stops keeping records.

Evening slips away unnoticed, dawn arrives unannounced.

This is surrender. Perhaps to love. Perhaps to divine. Perhaps to obsession.

The tavern becomes a universe where chronology dissolves and only desire rotates, like the goblet itself, endlessly in the eyes.

And, the purveyor of such intoxication eclipses and subsumes all else.
