Biography
Kausar Niazi was a Pakistani religious scholar, writer, and politician whose career spanned turbulent decades in Pakistan’s history. Born in 1934 in Isakhel in the Mianwali district, he belonged to the Niazi tribe. From an early age, he was drawn to religious learning and pursued Islamic studies, which laid the foundation of his career as a speaker and writer on religion.
He first gained prominence as a religious scholar and orator, becoming well known for his writings and lectures on Islamic issues. His eloquence and ability to interpret religious themes for wider audiences helped him develop a following. He wrote extensively in Urdu, producing works that examined Islam’s role in contemporary life. His religious writings also shaped his reputation as a thinker.
Later, Kausar Niazi moved into politics and became closely associated with Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. He joined the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and quickly rose to prominence as one of its influential leaders. His oratory skills and intellectual background made him an important figure in presenting the party’s ideas to the public. He served in ministerial positions in Bhutto’s government, including portfolios related to information and broadcasting.
Though not primarily known as a literary poet, his contributions as a writer and political figure left an imprint on Pakistan’s cultural and political discourse. He lived through challenging political times, including Bhutto’s removal from power, and remained a notable figure in Pakistan’s ideological debates.
Kausar Niazi passed away in 1994 in Islamabad. His legacy lies in his dual role as a religious scholar and political leader who tried to bridge faith and politics in a rapidly changing Pakistan. While his poetry is not documented, his influence as a writer, thinker, and politician remains part of the historical record.

beqaraar aayi hai
surely, it must have
passed through your street
for today, the morning zephyr
arrived here a bit restless
