Asad Badayuni was an Urdu poet and academic born in 1958 in Budaun. He taught Urdu literature at Aligarh Muslim University. His poetry includes many ghazals, a number of nazms, and well-crafted couplets.
His published poetic collections include Dhoop Ki Sarhad, Khema-e-Khaab, and Junoon-e-Kinara. He also founded and edited a literary magazine named Daairay.
His work is marked by clarity of emotion, lyrical depth and thoughtful choice of words. He often wrote about longing, memory, separation and the inner life of human beings. His style reflects a blend of modern sensibility with respect for classical Urdu poetic form.
Asad Badayuni received several literary awards during his life. His poems are still recited, quoted and included in anthologies of Urdu poetry. His legacy remains among lovers of Urdu literature for both his poetic craft and his role as teacher.
