Biography

Syed Yusuf Ali Khan, remembered by his pen name Nazim, was born in Rampur in 1816. His life unfolded during a period when Rampur was celebrated for its culture, refinement, and literary gatherings. In this environment, Nazim grew into a poet whose verses found a lasting place in Urdu literature.

Nazim’s strength lay in the ghazal, a form that gave voice to longing, beauty, and the mysteries of human experience. His couplets often carried Sufi undertones, reflecting a search for spiritual meaning alongside expressions of love and separation.
