Description of yazid: Yazid is an Arabic name historically referring to Yazid I , the second Umayyad caliph notorious for ordering the martyrdom of Imam Husayn at Karbala, sparking the Sunni-Shi'a divide. Unlike revered early caliphs elected by consensus, Yazid inherited power hereditarily from his father Muawiyah, breaking Islamic tradition. Differs from his uncle Yazid ibn Abi Sufyan, an early Muslim commander in Syrian conquests under Abu Bakr. In Shi'a poetry, he symbolizes
