Biography

Nazim Barelvi, born Syed Muhammad Haider in 1947 in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, is a noted Urdu poet of contemporary times. He is recognized for his unique voice in ghazals, where he blends the elegance of classical Urdu poetry with modern romantic expression. His pen name “Barelvi” reflects his association with his birthplace, Bareilly.

He pursued higher education at Aligarh Muslim University, where he completed a master’s degree in Urdu literature. His literary foundation was shaped by both academic study and exposure to traditional mushairas, which helped him develop his distinctive style. Over the years, he has become a familiar presence in mushaira gatherings across India and abroad, admired for his graceful diction and heartfelt delivery.
