Ameer Qazalbash was a well-known Urdu poet and film lyricist born in 1943 in Delhi. He combined poetic sensitivity with the demands of writing for cinema. His first poetry collection Baaz Gasht appeared in 1974. Later volumes included Inkaar (1976), Shikayatein Meri (1979), and others. A compiled volume Kulliyaat Ameer Qazalbash was released after his death.
In films he made a mark by writing song lyrics for popular movies such as Prem Rog and Ram Teri Ganga Maili. These songs remain remembered and sung by many.
His poetry is noted for its emotional expressiveness, clarity, evocative imagery, and balance between lyricism and deeper introspection. His ghazals and couplets often reflect themes of love, longing, human frailty, separation and self-reflection.
He died in 2003. His work continues to be read, recited and remembered for its beauty, for songs that endure in public memory, and for poetry that speaks both to common sentiments and poetic craft.

ghar kyun nahi jaate
you stand there, silently
in the path
to how many will you explain
why you are not going home?
